The Boundary Committee for England published its draft proposal for unitary local government in Suffolk on 7 July 2008. The proposal is for two unitary authorities - one covering Ipswich and Felixstowe and one covering the rest of the county without Lowestoft. The Committee considers its proposal is most likely to achieve the outcomes on which the government has asked for advice (affordability; value for money services; neighbourhood empowerment and engagement; broad cross section of support; and strategic leadership). The Committee also saw merit in a Suffolk unitary authority covering the whole county except for Lowestoft.

Previously, in a short speech, Chris Huhne said he looked forward to being part of Nick's team. He praised Nick's energy and intelligence, and said he was convinced that Nick would take the party on from strength to strength.

A new youth shelter was officially opened at the Claydon and Barham recreation ground, on 22 October when Liberal Democrat County Councillor John Field cut the red tape. It will provide a solution to concerns raised by the local youth, the police and the community about providing a safe place for young people to gather and socialise. The Youth Shelter was funded by Mid Suffolk District Council, the Police Authority's Partnership Fund and County Councillor John Field's Locality Budget. "The design and location of the youth shelter was chosen by the young people in consultation with the Youth Service, the local Parish Councils and the Recreation Ground Committee", said District Councillor Martin Redbond, a member of the Claydon and Barham Youth Support Group. Whilst the County Council's Youth Service is minimising its future activities in Claydon due to a lack of financial resources your District and County Councillors intend to work with the local community to make sure that there is adequate future provision for young people in the area.
